Grand Harbor Restaurant has some pretty brutal Yelp reviews, which is surprising given its reputation among the Cantonese community as one of the best dim sum restaurants in Los Angeles. Recently receiving a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, Grand Harbor is one of just a small handful of San Gabriel Valley restaurants to receive this kind of recognition. Don't let the poor Yelp reviews deter you. Inside awaits a top tier seafood restaurant, with something for everyone.

Came here last night (Saturday, 6/29/19) for dinner for my first time. We arrived at about 8:15 pm, and to our pleasure, there was no wait. The dining room was maybe three-quarters full. The decor and ambiance were grand and lively, fitting considering its name. Honestly, I felt like I was in a formal dining room on a cruise ship, or somewhere in Vegas. It was pleasing to the eyes, and definitely felt high end.

Service was not a problem at all. In fact, I found the service here to be very good. Efficient and attentive. To eat, we ordered 3 dishes, which included the Pan Fried Filet Mignon with Rice Noodle ($20.80), "healthy soup" ($10 each), and a stir fried shrimp dish. The food came out quick and everything tasted delicious. The shrimp was very fresh, while the pan fried filet mignon and rice noodle tasted exceptional. The soup, which was chicken-based, was very refreshing and flavorful. Everything was cooked perfectly.

I'm not sure what the 2.5 star overall Yelp rating is all about, but I do know that this is one of the best Cantonese restaurants around. In addition, Grand Harbor has some very premium and extravagant menu items that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The decor and atmosphere fit the bill, and while it is a little pricey, the quantities are generous, and the quality justifies it. Go ahead and give this place a try!

This is my first time here and last time. My family brought us here saying how good it was but today we received pretty poor service. We had a party of 14 and they squeezed us into a small table. When we order the server didn't write down the orders. I was concerned that he might forget. Later on I realized he didn't even understand we've started the ordering from him and he just stood there blanked out staring back at us. It was quite awkward. Maybe he didn't understand Mandarin. Then when our table was full of plates we asked a lady serve to switch to small plate for us. But she made an impatient sigh right back at my sister. She even talked back at us saying she was busy. This is probably the worse customer service ever.

The food was also disappointing too. The food quality was overall very roughly prepared and cooked. The garlic fried ribs was slimy and not crunchy. The green onion ginger sauce lobster was just salty without much aroma. We had a party of 14 and they only served 7 slices of lettuce and they asked to charge extra for the second set of lettuce. They refused to give us salt and pepper seasoning on the side for the crispy tofu.

Overall very poor service and poor food quality. We will not be back again.

This place might be better suited for bigger groups/banquets. My mom wanted to come here for dinner because they have lobster so four of us came around 7 pm.

We got lucky with parking; 7 pm on a Friday is no good time to look, considering this place shares a parking lot with a TJ Maxx, Daiso, Banana Bay, and JJ Bakery among others.

The lobster was $4.99 a pound and the whole lobster was quoted at about 4-5 pounds.

The first bite of a chunk was very good and actually had a bit too much sauce. Then closer to the shell it was more flavorless. Flavor was good but inconsistent overall throughout the lobster.

I was planning on ordering yangzhou fried rice until I saw the price. I don't know how big the portions are but at $19.80 a dish, they better be huge. Most dishes were above $15, with the average being about $18-$19. They have pineapple buns on the menu but only priced at a dozen. Not sure if you can get individual buns, but they actually gave us some for free dessert. The top crust is pretty dry but they're surprisingly filled with a pineapple custard. Not too sweet and the buns are super soft, but still too dry for me.

A separate laminated menu had some dishes for $9.99, one of which was West Lake Beef Soup. Delicious and my favorite thing that I tried. Other options on the $9.99 family menu included duck and bittermelon with chicken. I avoided the bittermelon dish but the duck was decent.

Rice here was upon request and was given by the bowl; there wasn't one big family container to share from. Each bowl is $1.50.

They gave hot towels midway through the meal but I noticed a lipstick stain on mine. The towels smelled nice, though. It seems like there is an overall theme of trying to provide a higher standard of service but it doesn't really pan out. They were prompt to take dirty and full dishes away but seemed rushed and distracted when we asked for utensils. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but this restaurant is decent.

For the price of this place, I am not impressed by their food or service :(. I came here for a family dinner and we had a pretty below average experience. For some bizarre reason, they had ran out of lobster on a weekend night.... How disappointing considering that lobster is one of the classic and quintessential dished to any fancy Chinese seafood dinner!

Some of the more decent dishes we had included the walnut shrimp (hard to mess this one up), scallop stir fry with peas, and garlic crab. The garlic crab was probably the best. I liked that they added butter to it here which made the dish more unique and fragrant compared to how it's made at other places.

Now onto the not so good dishes. The fish maw soup was a little bit on the saltier side. The pineapple buns were pretty average, the inside filling was literally made with pineapples you'd find in a can....I would've liked to see at least fresh pineapples. The mochi black sesame dessert was meh. The only good part is the mochi. The soupy part that the mochi was swimming in is slimy and gross. The soy sauce chicken was also not great. Something about the chicken tasted off. It was not fresh to me.

The decor is so glamorous and over the top at this place. You feel like you are walking into an opulent palace. This is probably why they feel entitled to charge so much? For the experience of eating in a luxurious and upscale feel restaurant? Sadly, the food was no where near the price tag. Food quality is definitely not fit for a king, queen or empress' standards lol. The service was subpar too. Kind of slow and not the friendliest....

There are so many other better seafood Chinese restaurants in SGV. This place is not a good choice to invest your money for a fancy dinner...
